First things first:
I'm pissed over the latest ps3 firmware update, as are a majority of consumers.
As of April 1st, 2010, Sony has dropped its support of the Linux operating system with version 3.21.
Needless to say geeks across the globe have lost at least some respect for the video game titan, possibly crippling their sales in the long run (we hope).
As of now many users are dealing with the lack of PSN connectivity if it means their Linux partitions are untouched. Unfortunately I am not one of these few. Having the option to connect automatically to the PSN also means my console updates without my knowledge.
Okay so I never had this option, I own a slim...
But thanks to this "new" firmware thousands of people have been left without their computer (yes, lots of people use their ps3 as their pc), and countless numbers have been stuck with a dilemma; backup and forfeit your Linux partition or lose all connectivity to the PlayStation Network.
At any rate, GeoHot has vowed to bring down the video game powerhouse a peg or two. Previously he had agreed not to dabble in custom firmware, but with Sony's latest downgrade he's taken it upon himself to fix it. Keep an eye on his twitter account and his blog for up to the minute info on his ps3-related exploits. He also suggest reading this article posted on eurogamer.net for a bit of an explanation on what he's done. It is also believed (but not confirmed) that this could enable the OtherOS feature in PS3 slims.
